When I was a wandering traveler during the late 60’s, I learned a very important lesson on the hitch-hiking road—always ask how far the ride was going. Unless you needed to get out of the rain, a short ride could put you in a place that was not good to get another ride from. So, I was always looking for the long ride. I guess I still am.
